Cycling Clubs & Classes
Your guide to local organisations who get you on your bike or run classes
There are cycling clubs all over Swindon, with something for everyone – and there are even classes for those who just want to learn more and be encouraged to get in the saddle. So whether cycling is a sociable and leisurely pursuit for you or you think of it as a sport, check out the information below to get in touch with like-minded people.
Cycle for Health is a cycling class for adults of all ages and is held on the athletics track at the County Ground, every Monday from 10am to 11am.
You will be able to develop your cycling skills, stamina and confidence through classes led by a fully qualified, friendly instructor. Take your own bike and helmet, or they will provide if you don't have your own. The class is a 'pay-and-play' session, so there is no need to book. Just turn up. > More information > Contact Anna Cipullo for details
Now disabled people in Swindon can also enjoy the benefits of cycling, thanks to the groundbreaking Cycling For All programme.
It uses a side by side tandem with two sets of handlebars and pedals; a hand bike for people with little or no lower body strength; a selection of trikes for children and adults; a quad bike; a recumbent trike; and a platform bike, which is suitable for wheelchairs. Regular sessions are run through selected schools, groups and day centres at the County Ground running track, but individuals who are interested can find out more by contacting Anna Cipullo. > Email Anna Cipullo
If your first thought about training to be a good and a safe cyclist is cycling proficiency, you’re not alone. Lots of people mistakenly think this is the one and only kind of cycle training ever invented! They also think it's strictly for kids.
But adults can also benefit from training, especially when that training goes far beyond basic road safety to fitness tips and even bike maintenance. The Cyclists’ Touring Club (CTC) have a range of courses. > Cyclists' Touring Club training
Rather than the old cycling proficiency training and tests, Swindon Borough Council promotes a series of courses for children through schools which teaches specific skills and awareness to specific age groups.
In fact, cycling proficiency no longer exists, having been replaced by Bikeability. > Swindon Council cycle safety page > Bikeability
MB Swindon is a new club for local mountain bikers of all kinds.
That includes racers, but the club is for those interested in taking it up for leisure and fitness purposes as much as competition. They organise regular rides, including night rides, so check out their website for more information. > Mountain Biking Swindon website
If you fancy taking up mountain biking (yes – in and around Swindon, so mountains aren’t compulsory!), check out the free training sessions offered by local club MB Swindon.
Membership of the club is not essential to take part, but places are limited, so book early. > MB Swindon training details
Swindon BUG is an informal group that works in partnership with other community groups and Swindon Borough Council. They have a useful website which features news of events and much more, including information on cycling to work or school and links.

A very well-established cycling club with more than 100 members and a growing youth group, SRC also has a strong racing section. But the club exists for anyone who enjoys riding their bike - whether the intended outcome is fun, fitness or trophies.

This club usually runs rides on Sundays and Wednesdays, with the length of rides varying. They welcome adult members of all ages and promise some rides that “tend to be easy-paced” which beginners would enjoy, and all rides stop off for refreshments!
